August Light
A short poem about late summer and the way a room holds heat.
April 2, 2026·1 min
The porch remembers every August
before this one.
The boards tick as they take the sun.
I set a glass down
and the light finds it
the way a child finds a familiar lap.
Nothing is asked of me
except to stay
until the shadow of the maple
reaches the step
and I can say, without hurrying,
that the day has done enough.
